Various field activities related to AMSR/AMSR-E validation will be conducted worldwide. The field activities can be categorized into two types:

  1. automatic-system-based field measurement by automatic weather stations and remote sensing instruments
  2. field campaigns by deploying aircraft sensors and ground-based instruments
Many of these field activities are related not only to AMSR/AMSR-E validation but also to international field programs such as GEWEX/CEOP. Since satellite observations including that of AMSR/AMSR-E are highly expected to contribute to the scientific goals of those programs, coordinating the field activities will contribute considerably to both endeavors.
