[Quick Report] Monitoring extreme heavy rainfall in UAE by Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP)
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) experienced record rainfall on April 16, 2024. JAXA is monitoring the precipitation from space through the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP). The present report is an analysis of precipitation in the UAE.

JAXA and NASA started to release near-real-time (NRT) processing products of the Global Precipitation Measurement Program (GPM) Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar product (DPR) version 07X at 8 UTC 16th January 2024. This version 07X is the first product to support changes in the orbit boost of the GPM Core Observatory. V07X is positioned as an experimental version, and we plan to continue calibration and evaluation, and resume providing DPR standard products (calibration verified) in March 2024.
As in the announcement of the NASA homepage, the GPM Core Observatory satellite performed two orbit boost maneuvers on Nov. 7 and 8, 2023 that raised its altitude from 407km to 442km.

Suspension of GPM/DPR and Minor upgrade of GSMaP
We suspend to provide GPM/DPR products(V07) from 8:00(UT) November 7, 2023 because of GPM orbit boost. We are going to restart providing Near-real-time products from January 2024, Standard products from March 2024.
As in the announcement of the NASA GPM Website, the GPM Core Observatory satellite is scheduled to undergo a series of orbit boost maneuvers which will raise its altitude from 407km to 442km.
GSMaP reprocessing data (V8 algorithm) was updated.
There were issues for reprocessed data of GSMaP MVK and MVK_gauge v8 released in July 2023, so the data were reprocessed.
The product version of the reprocessed data were changed 'V8.0000.0' to 'V8.0000.1'.
For users have already download them, please re-download them.
GSMaP reprocessing data (V8 algorithm) is now available!
We added the reprocessing data of the GSMaP for the past period after the launch of TRMM Observatory. So you can download data since January 1998 in version 8.

Release of "JAXA 3D RAINFALL WATCH" website
"JAXA 3D RAINFALL WATCH" website provides images and videos of three-dimensional rainfall observed by the Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR), which measures rainfall in three dimensions from space.
Today's Earth Research and Development Group received The Fifth Space Development and Utilization Grand Prize by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan.

In order to provide more user friendly and high-accuracy precipitation data, JAXA has continuously conducted the researches for improving rainfall estimation algorithm in cooperation with universities and research institutions. New GSMaP (v8) is now available
We start distributing the new GSMaP of algorithm version 8 on December 1, 2021.
The GSMaP v8 in binary and txt format is distributed as same format as current version, and we add netcdf format for real-time and near-real-time GSMaP of algorithm version 8. The currently distributed GSMaP products of v6 and v7 continue to be provided operationally.
The floods caused by heavy rainfall in Germany and Belgium
In July 2021, intermittent heavy rainfall occurred elsewhere across Europe, causing flooding and enormous damage particularly in Germany and Belgium.
From the perspective of providing information on precipitation condition, JAXA/EORC conducted the analysis using data from the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) core observatory, the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP), etc., which observe condition of rain from space.

This product is adjusted by the NOAA CPC Unified Gauge-based Analysis of Global Daily Precipitation considering a sample number of rain gauges
within grid boxes, as well as GSMaP_Gauge Ver.7.
For this product, binary data is available since Mar. 2000.
2) Reprocessed Standard Ver.6 data was replaced
Standard Ver.6 product from March 1, 2014 to April 30, 2015 was replaced with the data reprocessed by the algorithm Ver.6.4133.
Thus, Standard Ver.6 product becomes the data set processed with the same algorithm during less than 20 years.

For both NRT and MVK text format data, output format of rain rate is modified from F5.2 to F6.2.

We resumed distribution of the GPM-GSMaP near-real-time data, including all data during suspended period.

Due to the NASA's system maintenance and consequent shutdown of data flow, distribution of the GPM-GSMaP near-real-time data will be suspended during following period.

Due to trouble in NOAA, IR data is not available since 17Z 14 April 2015. This affects process and accuracy of GSMaP_NRT.

Due to network trouble in NOAA/NESDIS, AMSU and IR data is not available since 00Z 21 Oct. 2014. This affects process and accuracy of GSMaP_NRT.

Algorithm updates to the same version to the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Global Rainfall Map (GPM-GSMaP) product since Sep. 3, 2014.
Browse images will be replaced by reanalysis version about 3-days later.
