These images show the Japanese Islands observed by
GLI. They were produced from data acquired on 19, 20 and 21 March 2003 and show (from left to right) almost on a 24-hour basis, changes of clouds, sea ice in the Sea of Okhotsk and snow in the Hokkaido Island and areas of the Honshu Island along the Sea of Japan.
The first System Total 1 Check-out was conducted for the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (Midori-II), from 19 to 23 March, and we could obtain data continuously and in real time as shown above. Midori-II is now in the Initial Check-out Phase. When the Calibration and Validation Phase starts in the middle of April, we will be able to obtain these kinds of data almost every day. Furthermore, higher levels of data analysis will provide more detailed information about the Earth's environment such as changes of vegetation, sea-surface temperature, and Asian Dust.
