The second campaign consists of five missions mainly concerning the cryospheric parameter retrieval.
  • Site : Pacific Ocean near the Japan Island
    Mission : Sea Surface Temperature
    Primary cooperative institutes : Meteorological Research Institute
     
    AMSR should be able to estimate global SST distribution under various environmental conditions. This experiment aims to confirm the ability of SST measurement by using the 6 GHz band of AMSR.
     
  • Site : Lake Saroma and the Sea of Okhotsk
    Mission : Sea Ice
    Primary cooperative institutes : Hokkaido University of Education
     
    The Sea of Okhotsk is an appropriate test site in Japan for Sea Ice investigations.
     
  • Site : Ishikari Bay
    Mission : Snow fall
    Primary cooperative institutes : Hokkaido University
     
    Synchronized observation using AMR and the Doppler radars was performed to investigate the characteristics of microwave emission and scattering in snow clouds.
     
  • Site : Kushiro Wetland
    Mission : Permafrost
